Community palliative care services

Within our catchment, there are three community palliative care services offering care to the residents of fourteen local government areas (LGAs) across our region:

Banksia Palliative Care Service provides specialist palliative care and practical support including coordinated expert nursing, medical and allied health services for people who have been diagnosed with a progressive terminal illness residing in the north-eastern part of the catchment.  Its LGAs include Banyule, Nillumbik and Whittlesea with a population of 418,527 according to the 2021 Census.

Melbourne City Mission Palliative Care (MCMPC) provides in-home palliative care services seven days a week in the cities of Hume, Merri-bek, Darebin and Yarra offering a range of nursing, medical, allied health and consulting services to help people experiencing a life-limiting illness to have the best possible quality of life.  It services the north central part of the catchment with a total estimated population according to the 2021 census of 653,942.

Mercy Palliative Care offers 24-hour palliative care support and advice to the population of the north and west metropolitan region of Melbourne.  It services seven LGAs including Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Melton, Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay and Wyndham offering.  According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, census of 2021, the population for this catchment was 1,113,572.
